Dallas, TX — April 19, 2024, Alysia Mendoza was killed following a car accident that happened around 2:30 a.m. off Bernal Drive.
Initial details about the accident say that it happened at the intersection of Bernal Drive and Weisenberger Drive.

According to officials, 23-year-old Alysia Mendoza was in a Nissan Sentra going southwest along Bernal. Somehow, the vehicle lost control, causing it to veer off the right side of the road. There, the Nissan crashed with multiple parked vehicles. Mendoza was taken to a hospital after the crash, but Mendoza’s injuries proved to be fatal. No other injuries were reported.

Something I talk about a lot on this blog is the importance of ensuring investigators looked into even unlikely possible factors. Even a single-vehicle crash like this is no exception. If authorities only focused on surface-level details, there could still be more to the story.
For example, I had a case recently where authorities weren’t equipped to conduct a thorough accident reconstruction. As a result, they ended up blaming the victim for something they couldn’t avoid. They believed the victim hadn’t been wearing their seatbelt, but a more thorough independent accident reconstruction proved the victim’s seatbelt had a defect. So despite wearing it properly, the defect led the victim to be seriously hurt when they otherwise would have been okay.
I’m not trying to speculate about what may have contributed to this crash, to be clear. My point is folks often have this notion that authorities will get them all the facts after a car crash. In reality, they can make mistakes, and they can miss details that they’re not used to investigating on their own. Maybe independent investigations would just reassure those involved that they’re getting the answers they deserve. That peace of mind alone should be worth considering whether or not there’s more to this story that may have slipped through the cracks.
