1 Injured in Alleged Drunk Driver Accident on Baltimore Street in Laredo, TX

Laredo, TX — March 23, 2025, one person was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident in the 2100 block of Baltimore Street.

Authorities said a Ford Escape hit a motorcycle near Santa Isabel Avenue and continued driving.

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old man whose name has not been made public, suffered serious injuries in the crash, according to authorities.

The Ford driver was arrested a short time late on misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and causing an accident involving injuries.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the crash at this time.

When a motorcyclist gets seriously hurt in a crash involving a suspected drunk driver, it’s natural to ask how the driver ended up on the road in that condition. And while the focus often stops with the arrest, it’s worth asking another question: Where did the drinking happen, and was someone responsible for overserving that driver?

In Texas, bars and restaurants have a legal responsibility not to serve alcohol to someone who’s already obviously intoxicated. That’s more than just good practice: it’s the law. When alcohol providers ignore that responsibility, the risks don’t just stay inside the bar. They spill out onto the road, affecting innocent people who had nothing to do with the drinking.

The problem is, most crash investigations don’t look into that part of the story. Once the driver is arrested, the case is often considered “closed.” But if someone knowingly served alcohol to a visibly intoxicated person who then caused serious harm, Texas dram shop laws allow victims to hold that provider accountable too.

That’s why it’s important to get the full picture. A proper investigation should look into where the driver had been drinking and whether that establishment broke the law. Accountability doesn’t stop with the person behind the wheel: it extends to anyone who contributed to putting them there.

Getting those answers isn’t just about justice for the injured rider. It’s about helping to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen again on someone else’s street.
