Harris County, TX — September 3, 2023, children and one other were injured in an alleged drunk driver car accident at around midnight on the Sam Houston Tollway.

Investigators said that the incident happened at approximately 12:50 a.m. along westbound lanes of the tollway near Imperial Valley Drive.

According to officials, two adults and three children were in a GMC Sierra traveling along the loop. They were approaching a previous crash scene that had at least one person standing nearby along the right side of the roadway.

Authorities say that an Infiniti G37 swerved to go around this crash scene, hitting the GMC in the process. This then led to the Infiniti veering back to the right where it hit the barrier and the person standing by the initial crash site. The Infiniti driver allegedly fled the scene on foot but was caught.

As a result of the collision, a 6-year-old in the GMC was said to have incapacitating injuries. The pedestrian’s injuries were described as non-incapacitating. Two other children in the pickup, ages 2 and 10, were in unspecified conditions. There were no other confirmed injuries.

Details at this time indicate that the Infiniti driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. A .235 BAC test result has been reported, and the driver may be facing pending charges.
