Ali Pope Killed, Woman Injured in 18-wheeler Accident in St. Louis County, MO

Their reports say that 60-year-old Ali Pope was in a Dodge Ram pickup going along the interstate. It appears the pickup may have had a mechanical issue that caused it to lose control and crash with a tractor-trailer. This ejected both Pope and a woman in the pickup from the vehicle.

Pope sustained fatal injuries as a result while the woman’s injuries were said to be moderate. Right now, additional details surrounding the crash are unavailable.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

I can’t help wondering what led authorities to say this could be due to a mechanical failure. Sometimes, that can just mean that a tire blew out. But if there’s something more serious here, such as brake failure or an issue with the vehicle’s steering column, for example, what steps are being taken to address that issue? Was it maintenance related? Did the vehicle hit something in the road? Or was there some sort of defect that could be putting other motorists in danger?
