Castaic, CA — February 27, 2026, Alejandro Covarubbias was killed in a hit-and-run truck accident at about 11 a.m. on the 5 Freeway/Interstate 5.
Authorities said a vehicle was stopped on the shoulder near Lake Hughes Road with flat tire when it was hit by a passing semi-truck. The truck did not stop after the collision.
The driver, 22-year-old Alejandro Covarrubias, was outside the vehicle working to change the tire at the time, according to authorities. He died from injuries suffered in the crash.
His girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat, was not injured, according to news reports.
