Ector County, TX — February 4, 2024, Abraham Adrian Vargas was killed while Michael Vernon Johnson was injured in a car accident at about 5:15 a.m. on F.M. 554.
According to authorities, 47-year-old Michael Vernon Johnson was traveling in a Ford F-150 along Cottonwood Road approaching the F.M. 554 intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the pickup truck neglected to stop for the stop sign and entered the intersection at an unsafe time. This poorly timed maneuver resulted in a collision between the pickup and a Nissan Frontier which had been traveling along F.M. 554, Hollyhock Avenue.
Both 31-year-old Abraham Adrian Vargas—who had been an occupant of the Nissan—and Johnson incurred injuries of varying severity as a result of the accident. They were transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive treatment. Vargas, however, was ultimately unable to overcome his injuries and was declared deceased at the hospital.
