Accident Report
June 5, 2026, Lenore and William Weihs and a juvenile were injured due to a car accident just before 5:00 p.m. along State Highway 71.
According to authorities, three people—68-year-old Lenore Weihs, 71-year-old William Weihs, and a 10-year-old girl—were traveling in a northwestbound Ford Expedition on State Highway 71 at the Farm to Market 2233 intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a southwestbound GMC Sierra pickup truck attempted a left turn onto the highway without yielding the right-of-way at a stop sign. A collision consequently occurred between the front end of the Expedition and the left side of the Sierra.
All three occupants of the Expedition reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. It does not appear that anyone from the Sierra was hurt. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Over the last three decades in which I have been in this career, I have had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of intersection-related car accidents. Any investigation worth its salt will be looking into the possibility of driver error being behind the Sierra’s unsafe turn. Things like distraction, fatigue, impairment, et cetera will undoubtedly all be considered. I hope the investigators are also meticulous and openminded enough to consider less likely possibilities, as well, such as mechanical malfunction.
Beyond that, I would be interested to know how well the safety features of the Expedition performed in the wreck. Did the airbags deploy correctly? Did the seatbelts function the way they were designed to? If things like that were faulty in any way, then it is possible that the victims’ injuries ended up being more severe than they should have been.
Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or, if need be, a third party—get in-depth vehicle inspections done on the two vehicles. That’s what will be able to shed light on mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck or its outcome. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve more than the vague assumptions that often result from surface-level investigation.
