How Did This Accident Occur?
I certainly don’t know more about this crash than what authorities released publicly already. What I do know, however, is how often people unfairly blame motorcyclists without actually looking at the evidence. I’ve even had situations where we had to do our own independent investigations to correct official reports that wrongfully blamed a motorcyclist for something they couldn’t avoid.
Regardless of whether or not the victim did anything wrong here, the facts need to tell the story. That means conducting thorough accident reconstructions, preserving electronic data, mapping out the scene, inspecting the vehicle, and otherwise turning over every stone possible for more information. If authorities have been doing that, that’s good. But if they’re moving on too quickly, they might be letting their bias get in the way of telling a fair story.
Do any motorcyclists out there agree with me? Tell me your thoughts in the comments.
