Accident Report

College Station, TX — August 31, 2026, a construction worker was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident on Earl Rudder Freeway/State Highway 6.

Authorities said a wrong-way vehicle drove into a construction zone near the Southwest Freeway overpass. Workers stopped the vehicle from advancing into the site and the crew foreman tried to grab the keys when the driver began backing up, dragging the man about 70 feet, before a street sweeper and a off-duty police officer blocked the vehicle.

The construction foreman suffered an arm injury in the encounter, according to authorities.

The vehicle driver, a 64-year-old woman, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated, third offense, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Brazos County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

If a blood test confirms this driver was intoxicated, authorities should try to figure out where she had been drinking before she allegedly drove into a construction zone and injured a worker.

That matters because under Texas law alcohol providers like bars or restaurants can share responsibility for injuries caused a patron who was served while obviously intoxicated.

I’m not saying that applies in this instance, but it is worth investigating so the injured worker and his family know everyone who may have played a role in this crash.
