August 31, 2026, Eric Reyes was killed following a car accident that happened around 4:30 p.m. on Transmountain Road.

Preliminary reports on the crash say that it happened on the northeast side along Transmountain Road/Loop 375.

It appears that 37-year-old Eric Reyes was in a Toyota Tacoma going westbound along Transmountain Road. The pickup collided with a Toyota Camry traveling the same direction. Due to the crash, Eric Reyes reportedly sustained fatal injuries.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I’ve been investigating serious and fatal car accidents for over 30 years now. Generally speaking, when I read about a pickup and a sedan colliding, it’s not usually the person in the pickup that takes the worst of the impact. As people might expect, the person in the larger vehicle tends to be in better condition.

Here, however, not only did the pickup driver sustained fatal injuries, but also there’s no indication that anyone else was even hurt. Why is that? It could be that the circumstances just happened to play out that way. Details not yet available to the public could offer a perfectly reasonable explanation. Or, this could be a red flag that an airbag, a seatbelt, or something else meant to keep the victim safe failed to do so.

That’s something I rarely ever see authorities look into, yet it can be crucial for getting a victim’s loved ones the answers they deserve. All said and done, a careful inspection of the Tacoma involved in this crash might not reveal anything unusual. But if something unusual did lead to the victim’s fatal injuries, that needs to be brought to light as soon as possible.
