Pearsall, TX — August 1, 2026, Abel Mendoza was killed in an early morning hit-and-run accident on South Oak Street/Interstate 35 Business.

Authorities said a pedestrian was hit by an unknown vehicle sometime before 2:30 a.m. The vehicle continued driving after the collision.

The pedestrian, 76-year-old Abel Escutia Mendoza, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Frio County crash at this time.
