How Did This Accident Occur?
Bicycles can be hard to see on the road, but professional drivers are supposed to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
Authorities should reconstruct this crash by poring over vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and any available video footage. That should help them determine if another vehicle blocked the truck driver’s view or if the truck had sensors that should have alerted the driver to the presence of the man on a bike.
Investigators should also look into the driver’s qualifications and traffic record, and whether the truck was overdue for any scheduled maintenance or repairs.
This probe should give the bicyclist’s family a clear picture of what caused this crash.
