July 16, 2026, Terry Finney was injured due to a single-car accident shortly before 12:30 a.m. along Interstate Highway 2.

According to authorities, 67-year-old Terry Finney was traveling in a southbound Ford F-150 pickup truck on I-2 in the vicinity of Breyfogle Road when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the pickup was involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently struck a retaining wall.

Finney reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Single-car accidents that happen in the middle of the night like this one did are often dismissed by the general public as having been caused by driver error without much real consideration. Personally, though, I’m not so eager to settle on that conclusion without more information. Why? Because I have been in this line of work for over three decades. In that time, I have seen plenty of similar cases in which thorough investigation managed to uncover evidence of less likely causes. Sometimes things don’t end up having been how they initially appeared on the surface.

I’m not trying to insinuate that I have more details about this accident than are already publicly available, by the way. As far as I know, driver error—whether it was a result of distraction, fatigue, impairment, or something else entirely—remains on the table as a possible cause. However, what if the wreck was a result of something gone wrong with the F-150 itself? Could it have been dealing with steering mechanism issues, for example? Or perhaps it had a tire blowout? Have brake failure or throttle issues been considered? Just because these kinds of things are unlikely does not mean they should automatically be ruled out without being properly looked into.

An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to shed light on any underlying mechanical malfunctions or product defects that might otherwise have gone unnoticed. Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or, if need be, a third party—get one done. That way all the bases are covered and nothing will inadvertently be allowed to slip through the cracks. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve more than vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation.
