Accident Report

Ben Wheeler, TX — June 10, 2026, Stefenie Lovelady was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 9:30 p.m. on State Highway 64.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2013 Hyundai Sonata was heading southeast without its headlights on when it collided with a 2018 Kia Sorento that was going west on F.M. 858.

Kia driver Stefenie Lovelady, 53, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report, while the 48-year-old man riding with her suffered minor injuries.

The Hyundai driver, who was listed as possibly injured, was charged with intoxication assault after the crash, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Van Zandt County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities likely will investigate this crash like any other injury accident, but they should expand the scope of their inquiry if blood tests confirm the Hyundai driver was intoxicated. They should look into where she had been drinking before this crash.

It’s one thing if she had been drinking at home, but if she was served at a bar or restaurant while obviously intoxicated before she got behind the wheel that alcohol provider could share responsibility for the injuries caused in this crash under Texas law.

I don’t know if that happened in this instance, but the Kia driver and her family deserve to know everyone who may have played a role in this accident.
