Accident Report

Coppell, TX — May 30, 2026, Connor McDermott was injured in a single-vehicle accident at about 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of West Sandy Lake Road.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a northbound 2017 Ford Mustang crashed into a light pole and a concrete sign while turning left.

Driver Connor McDermott, 23, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Dallas County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s easy to assume this crash happened because the driver was fatigued at 2:30 in the morning, but I’ve learned over my 30-plus-year career that it is better to base accident investigations on facts than assumptions. Those facts will come from a proper investigation into this crash.

Authorities likely will rely on physical evidence, witness statements, data from the Mustang’s engine control module and any available video footage to reconstruct this accident, while cell phone records could show what the driver was doing at the time of the crash.

If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, a qualified expert will need to conduct a forensic examination on the Mustang before it is scrapped or repaired. Such inspections are beyond the capabilities of most law enforcement agencies, in my opinion, but the injured driver and his family deserve to know as much as possible about what happened on Sandy Lake Road.
