How Did This Accident Occur?

In almost every single wrong-way crash investigation I’ve been a part of, intoxication turned out to be the cause of the accident. Authorities allege intoxication was involved here, as well. If that’s true, was alcohol the intoxicant, and was the driver coming from a local bar or restaurant? Here’s why that matters.

A lot of folks think a crash like this begins and ends behind the wheel of the wrong-way vehicle. However, for someone to get on the wrong side of a major highway, they usually have to be extremely intoxicated. That usually happens with the help of a negligent alcohol provider unlawfully over-serving that driver.

If that happened here, should the alcohol provider escape consequences simply because there’s a more obvious suspect to pin the blame on? Of course not. All responsible parties should be held accountable, if possible. That might require investigations that go far beyond the crash itself. Hopefully someone—authorities or independent professionals—take those steps here.
