Accident Report
Mission, TX — May 3, 2026, John Alonso was killed in a wrong-way motorcycle accident at about 3:45 a.m. on the frontage road for Interstate 2/U.S. Highway 83.
Authorities said an eastbound 2015 Harley-Davidson FLHX motorcycle collided with a westbound 2024 Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle near Bernadina Street.
Suzuki rider John Andrew “Zuki” Alonso, 23, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.
The other motorcyclist, who had been fleeing from an attempted traffic stop near U.S. Highway 83 Business and Bensen Road, has been charged with murder for his role in the crash, according to a preliminary crash report. He was seriously injured in the collision.
It is not clear why authorities tried to stop the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, but the report indicates the rider is suspecting of driving while intoxicated.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Hidalgo County crash at this time.

After a wrong-way crash at this time of the morning, most people would not be surprised to read that authorities believe alcohol played a role in this accident. If blood tests confirm that the fleeing motorcyclist was intoxicated, someone needs to look into where he had been drinking.
That could be important information if it is proven that he had been drinking at a bar or restaurant because under Texas law alcohol providers can share responsibility injuries caused by a patron who was obviously intoxicated.
