How Did This Accident Occur?
Common factors for single-vehicle car accidents can include distracted driving and unsafe speeds. This early in the morning, fatigue is also an important factor to consider. What bothers me, though, is when authorities only consider these things and fail to consider less common possible factors.
For example, what if the vehicle was out of control due to a vehicle defect? Are authorities inspecting the vehicle? Is it in the hands of a professional accident reconstructionist with state of the art tools? Or, did they just tow the vehicle to a wreck yard where vital evidence could be lost or discarded?
It would surprise people how man times throughout my career I’ve seen authorities miss vital details simply because they moved too quickly or treated a crash like a low priority. They don’t always do this, of course. That’s why it’s important families are up front with their concerns and questions. If authorities can address those concerns thoroughly, it’s generally because they’re doing good investigations. But if their answers come up short, that could be a sign that the efforts of authorities alone aren’t going to cut it.
