How Did This Accident Occur?
Any single-vehicle accident is going to bring up common concerns, like vehicle speed, distracted, and fatigue (especially at this time of day). However, if a car accident investigation isn’t broad enough to include even unlikely possible factors, they can easily miss important details. Sometimes, even the cause of the crash isn’t the most important factor.
Let me give an example. A while back, a family asked us to look over a preliminary crash investigation from authorities. They had concerns because authorities claimed their loved one hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt, but they knew the driver was always very safe. So, we inspected the vehicle, and we found out the seatbelt was actually defective. The driver had it on during the crash, but it failed, resulting in serious injuries that likely would have been prevented by a working seatbelt. The authorities, who lacked the necessary experience and equipment to inspect for defects, simply jumped to conclusions and got the facts wrong.
I’m not suggesting that anything like that happened here, necessarily. The point is that victims and families deserve to know investigations aren’t leaving anything out. Whether the crash involved something ordinary or something extraordinary, the evidence is what tells the story. Hopefully steps are taken here to make sure no stone goes unturned.
