How Did This Accident Occur?

A single-vehicle accident in the middle of the night? Most people will assume that driver error was behind it. However, I’ve been doing this job for over thirty years. In that time, I’ve analyzed hundreds of single-vehicle accidents. Because of that, I’m slow to jump to conclusions. I’ve seen too many cases that brought out underlying issues with the cars that were the cause of the accident, not the driver.

To be clear, I don’t know more about this particular accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to know if the authorities are asking the right questions. After all, what if there was a problem with the steering? Maybe there was a tire blowout? Have they considered brake failure? Feel free to leave a comment letting me know whether or not you agree, but any one of these things could have had a hand in the accident.

A vehicle inspection will be able to either rule out these issues or shed light on them. These types of vehicle inspections are not routinely done in accident investigations, but a special request can be made. If the authorities fail to take that step, then a third party investigation can always take up that slack just to make sure that all the bases are covered. After all, the victim deserves answers backed by evidence, not blame.
