How Did This Accident Occur?

We don’t know enough at this point to even guess at how this crash happened. Authorities have only said that two vehicles, a car and a cement mixer truck, collided on State Highway 105. We don’t know if they were going the same direction, moving toward each other or if one was turning at the time of the collision.

The ongoing investigation should be able to sort out how these two vehicles collided rather quickly from witness statements and evidence at the scene, but determining how it happened likely will require a deeper review, starting with data from the truck’s engine control module and any available video of the crash.

Investigators also should look into any mechanical issues contributed to the crash, but that may require an independent probe, as experience has shown me that many law enforcement agencies lack the resources for such technical examinations.
