Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

People often see reports like this and just assume authorities were more clear behind the scenes with the victim’s family. I’ve been handling Texas fatal work accident cases for over 30 years. It would surprise folks how many cases I’ve seen where authorities gave just as little information to the family as they did here.

Simply put, OSHA has their own priorities they put effort into. They don’t usually go out of their way to make sure families have all the evidence and information they need to navigate Texas work fatality law (the most complex work fatality laws in the whole country).

As such, families often find that to navigate that legal maze they have to seek out independent professionals who can prioritize their needs first. Did that ever happen here?
