Port Arthur, TX — April 16, 2024, Van Ray Shipp was injured as the result of a motorcycle accident at around 11:48 p.m. along Memorial Boulevard.
Investigators said that the accident happened near the intersection of Memorial Boulevard and 60th Street.
Officials said that 66-year-old Van Ray Shipp was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle going southbound along the highway. The road was under construction. Somehow, the motorcycle lost control and crashed. Van Ray Shipp reportedly had serious injuries.

Did authorities do a close inspection of the roadway here? Sometimes, construction areas aren’t well-lit or aren’t marked properly. Uneven roadways, gravel, barrels, and all kinds of other work-related hazards could easily cause a motorcyclist to suddenly lose control. Maybe that was ultimately ruled out here, but it’s always important to know if authorities let the evidence speak for itself.
