Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Authorities didn’t specify if alcohol was the cause of the crash here. If it was, that can make things a lot more complex than a typical car accident. That may sound odd, as folks might think that would make things more open-and-shut. But when a drunk driver causes a crash, investigations must also consider if a negligent alcohol provider contributed to the crash, as well.

I’ve handled hundreds of alcohol-related accident cases where it turned out someone was unlawfully over-served by a bar or similar venue. When they do so in Texas, they expose themselves to potential legal consequences and accountability for a resulting accident. So if alcohol was a factor here, does responsibility for the crash extend beyond the accident scene? That might require more thorough investigations than have happened so far.
