According to initial details about the accident, it happened in the area of the Highway 36 and County Road 861 intersection.

Investigators said that 18-year-old Isiah Michael Garcia was in a Lincoln MKZ going southbound on the highway. For reasons not clear right now, the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway where it crashed into a fence, then into a tree.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
There are a few types of accidents which are more likely to result in people jumping to conclusions without knowing all of the facts. Two of the worst offenders are single-vehicle accidents and accidents involving teenagers. Simply put, people are less willing to believe this kind of crash could happen due to factors the victims couldn’t avoid. But that’s not at all uncommon.
Did a tire blow out? Were there hazards in the road? Is the road in poor condition? Did the victim have a medical condition? Does the vehicle have some sort of defect? Did the victim’s seatbelt and airbag function properly? Was there some other reckless driver who left the scene?
Just because things like fatigue or distracted driving or more common doesn’t make it okay to jump to conclusions without any evidence. Investigations need to be able to let the facts speak for themselves. So regardless of what happened here, my hope is that authorities haven’t been too hasty in their efforts and have looked into even less common possible factors. Otherwise, something important might slip through the cracks.
