San Marcos, TX — February 10, 2024, Robert Valentine IV was injured following a multi-car accident just before 9:00 p.m. on Interstate 35.
Investigators said in their preliminary statements that the crash occurred on northbound lanes of the interstate near East Hopkins Street.

According to officials, 22-year-old Robert Valentine IV was in a Honda Civic going along I-35. Up ahead, it appears Dodge Charger reportedly driving erratically forced several vehicles to slam on their brakes. This resulted in a collision between Valentine’s Honda and a Chrysler, seriously injuring Valentine.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Details suggest authorities found the driver of the Dodge Charger to be intoxicated at the time of the accident. Did they confirm this? And if so, where was that driver prior to the accident? Believe it or not, intoxicated driving can often be more complex than just a single driver going to jail. If alcohol was involved, there could also be a local alcohol provider who needs to be held accountable.
If anyone is hearing about this possibility for the first time, that’s not surprising. Holding alcohol providers accountable isn’t often a high priority for authorities, so it doesn’t really get the attention it deserves.
But some jurisdictions, like Harris County, for example, have found that getting those establishments to clean up their act makes their communities safer. Other jurisdictions have been slow to catch on. Usually, when our firm is working a personal injury case against some place like a bar or restaurant, we’re the only ones investigating them. It’s usually us handing authorities evidence on a silver platter that sets other legal consequences into motion.
Whatever happened here, my hope is just that authorities care about more than just seeing a negligent driver put in cuffs. As important as that may be, there could be more to the story that those involved in the crash deserve to know is being handled appropriately.
