How Did This Accident Occur?

Honestly, there is still a lot we do not know about what happened in this accident. Considering the time of the morning, it would not be outside of the realm of possibilities to consider whether or not alcohol might have played a role. I’ve been in this line of business for over thirty years, though. In that time, I’ve seen plenty of cases in which evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed by the investigation. I think it would be prudent, in this case, to wait for the investigation to be completed and its findings publicized before jumping to concusions.

After all, while it’s not very likely, something could have gone wrong with the pickup truck’s door mechanism. Hopefully an in-depth vehicle inspection gets done on the Silverado so that any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the outcome won’t fly under the radar.

I understand that these kinds of inspections—done by professionals in a laboratory setting—are not routine in most accident investigations; a special request might have to be made. If the authorities fail to do so, then a third party investigation can always take that step, instead, just to make sure that all the bases are covered.

In the end, the people left behind by the victim deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of how and why this accident occurred. Vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation that simply blames the victim just won’t cut it.
