Accident Report

September 18, 2026, two pedestrians were injured following a truck accident at around 9:00 p.m. along East 14th Street.

Preliminary statements from the NYPD say that the accident happened at the intersection of E. 14th Street and 1st Avenue in the East Village area of Manhattan.

According to officials, two people were in the area of the intersection as a semi-truck attempted to make a right turn. As the truck turned, it somehow struck both pedestrians.

Due to the accident, both pedestrians were injured, one critically. Additional details about the accident are unavailable at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I certainly don’t know more about this specific accident than what’s in the news, but two things come to my mind.

For one, we hold commercial truck drivers to a high standard, legally speaking. Their vehicles are capable of causing serious harm when handled recklessly. Part of that includes watching out for pedestrians. I can think of few places where I would most expect to encounter pedestrians that in Manhattan. Obviously, there could be factors that made this collision unavoidable for the truck driver. But it’s worth knowing whether or not a reasonably prudent professional could have avoided this accident.

Two, there are a lot of cameras in New York, both city cameras and private cameras outside of businesses and also on people’s vehicles. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were at least one camera with a view of this intersection. Have authorities looked for any? That could go a long way in explaining what happened here. That evidence is time-sensitive, though, so it needs to be secured ASAP.

In the meantime, did anyone see what happened here? Leave a comment and let us know.
