How Did This Accident Occur?

At this point, it’s not clear if the pedestrian was on the road or on the shoulder. Did the truck driver have a chance to avoid him? Was his vision obstructed? Did the truck have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? Authorities should consider questions like this as they investigate this crash.

Investigators will gather vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and available video footage to reconstruct this crash, while cell phone records could show what the driver was doing at the time and help track the pedestrian’s movements.

Authorities also should look at the trucking company’s records to see if the driver has a history of accidents or traffic violations and whether the truck was overdue for any scheduled maintenance or repairs.

This investigation should answer any lingering questions the pedestrian’s family has about this crash.
