Accident Report

Houston, TX — September 4, 2026, a pedestrian was killed in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 9:45 p.m. on Cullen Boulevard.

Authorities said a pedestrian was trying to cross the road outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu near the intersection with Bellfort Avenue.

The pedestrian, a 40-year-old man whose name has not been made public yet, died after being taken to a nearby hospital, according to authorities.

The Chevrolet driver, who remained on the scene, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, although the charges against him could be updated once the investigation is complete, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Harris County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I expect authorities to investigate this crash like any other fatal accident, while also looking beyond the scene of the collision to try to figure out where the driver had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.

That matters, because under Texas law alcohol providers like bars or restaurants can share responsibility for injuries caused in alcohol-related crashes if the driver was served while obviously intoxicated.

There are a lot of elements to line up there, but in my experience it’s worth at least looking into so the pedestrian’s family knows everyone who may have played a role in this accident.

Many law enforcement agencies don’t take that kind of initiative in crashes like this, but the folks in Houston usually do a pretty good job of trying to connect as many dots as possible.
