How Did This Accident Occur?
When it comes to pedestrian-involved accidents that occur late at night like this one did, many folks have the tendency to assume the question of who had the right-of-way at the time is the be-all-end-all of the investigation. While that is certainly an important question that should absolutely be asked and answered, any investigation worth its salt will be looking into other factors, as well.
What is the lighting like in the area? Is there enough pedestrian infrastructure like crosswalks and sidewalks? Regardless of right-of-way, was the collision avoidable, or was there something wrong with the Infiniti—such as steering column issues or faulty brakes—that played a role? Did human error caused by things like distraction, fatigue, impairment, et cetera factor in?
Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or, if need be, a third party—are meticulous and openminded enough to get to the bottom of it. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve more than the vague assumptions that often result from surface-level investigation.
