How Did This Accident Occur?

Late at night, it’s possible that a pedestrian on a roadway like this simply wouldn’t be visible until it was too late for a driver to avoid them. However, that would depend on where exactly the pedestrian was, how fast the vehicle was going, if distraction or alcohol played a role, etc. That said, thing that concerns me in particular in these situations is the victim isn’t here to give their side of the story.

It might surprise folks how often a police investigation boils down to speaking to the people involved in the accident, and that’s it. If there weren’t independent witnesses or video of the accident, then it may be difficult to ensure someone is telling the victim’s side of the story in their place. If authorities were more thorough here, that would be good to know. However, it’s situations like this which often fare better when independent investigators look things over to ensure nothing important slipped through the cracks.
