Accident Report

Lincoln County, CO — October 1, 2026, one person was killed and another was injured in a truck accident just before 6 a.m. on State Highway 71 south of Limon.

Authorities said a 2022 Volvo semi-truck allegedly ran a stop sign while heading east on State Highway 94, crashing into a southbound 2014 Buick Enclave.

The driver of the Buick, a 45-year-old Model man whose name has not been made public yet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities. A 17-year-old girl who had been riding with him was flown to a Denver area hospital with serious injuries.

The truck driver, 39, was hospitalized with unspecified injuries, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Lincoln County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Initial reports indicate this crash happened because a truck ran a stop sign at the junction of two state highways, but at this point we don’t know why. Was the truck driver distracted or fatigued? Did he have a medical emergency? Did the truck have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism?

Authorities will use vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and available video footage to reconstruct this accident, while cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time.
