How Did This Accident Occur?
The truck driver was cited for failure to yield, but that doesn’t necessary mean he is to blame for this accident. Traffic tickets are based on the initial impressions of the first officer on the scene. A full investigation may point to another cause for this crash.
Authorities will work to reconstruct this accident by poring over vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and available video footage. Cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time, but a qualified expert should examine the vehicles if investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash.
Investigators also should look at the trucking company. Its records could show if the truck was overdue for any scheduled repairs, or whether the driver was properly vetted and trained.
This investigation should give the Ford driver and his family a clear picture of what happened on S.H. 214.
