A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2017 Hyundai Sonata was heading north when it collided with a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck near the junction with South Great Trinity Forest Way/State Highway Loop 12.
The Hyundai driver, a 25-year-old woman, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report. Her name has not been made public yet.

How Did This Accident Occur?
Was the Hyundai driver fatigued or distracted? Did her car have an issue with its brakes or steering? Did the truck stop suddenly? Did it have working brake lights? I don’t know the answer to these questions, but they show the need for a full investigation of this crash.
Investigators should be able to answer these questions once they’ve finished reconstructing this accident by poring over physical evidence, witness statements, cell phone records, data from the vehicles and any available video footage of the crash.
An outside expert will be needed if investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash, because in my experience most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training to conduct a forensic vehicle examination.
A thorough investigation should provide a clear picture of how this accident happened for the injured driver and her family.
