The Kia driver, a 29-year-old man, was cited for failure to yield the right of way at an intersection, the report states. He and the 30-year-old woman riding with him were not injured.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities have reached a conclusion about how this crash happened, based on their decision to cite the Kia driver for failure to yield, but that shouldn’t be the final word.

What if the Kia had worn breaks or an issue with its steering mechanism? It’s not hard to imagine a mechanical problem in vehicle that is more than 10 years old, but there is no way to know if that contributed to this crash without a thorough investigation.

In addition to scrutinizing evidence at the scene, data from both vehicles and any available security camera footage, investigators should look into the possibility that a mechanical breakdown didn’t play a role in the crash. That may mean engaging an outside investigator, since police often don’t have the time or expertise for such examinations.
