Accident Report

Edinburg, TX — July 19, 2026, Lourdes Carrizales was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 9:30 p.m. on the frontage road for Interstate 69C.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a southbound 2023 Chevrolet Camaro rear-ended a 2015 Honda Accord as the vehicles approached West Ingle Road.

Honda driver Lourdes Carrizales, 67, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report. The 59-year-old man riding with her suffered minor injuries.

The Chevrolet driver, who also suffered minor injuries, was charged with intoxication assault after the crash, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Hidalgo County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities likely will investigate this crash like any other injury accident, but I hope they will take their probe a step further if blood tests confirm the Chevrolet driver was intoxicated. They should try to figure out where he had been drinking before this accident.

That matters because under Texas law alcohol providers can share responsibility for injuries caused by drunk drivers, if they serve a patron who was obviously intoxicated before getting behind the wheel.

Many law enforcement agencies don’t investigate alcohol-related crashes this thoroughly, in my experience, but the Honda driver and her family deserve to know everyone who may have played a role in this accident.
