Things may seem open-and-shut when authorities have someone to blame for a crash. However, getting a proper resolution for victims and families is about more than just having someone to blame. Insurance companies look for any gap they can to try to muddy the waters and shift responsibility off of themselves.

As such, having as much clear evidence as possible telling the story is crucial. If folks just assume authorities got all the facts because they have someone to blame, they’re likely to find that authorities merely preserved the minimum evidence they need for charges or citations. It might take more thorough independent investigations that focus on telling the whole story to actually gather all the facts before evidence disappears. Were those steps ever taken here?
