Accident Report

August 29, 2026, Leonel Paiz and two others were injured after a car accident at around 11:00 p.m. along North Loop 1604 West.

Initial details about the accident say that it happened in the area of N. Loop 1604 West and Farm-to-Market 1560 in northwest Bexar County.

According to officials, 20-year-old Leonel Paiz and a 21-year-old man were in a Mazda going southbound along Loop 1604. A 31-year-old man was in a Toyota Rav4 going the same direction. Authorities allege that the Toyota driver was inattentive, and they crashed with the Mazda.

Due to the collision, Leonel Paiz and his passenger were seriously injured. The Toyota driver also was seriously injured. Right now, additional details about the accident are unavailable.

How Did This Accident Occur?

If it’s true that inattention led to this crash, that would be a good example of why cellphones are just about the first thing any accident investigation should look into. Cellphones cause so many accidents these days, and it would be irresponsible not to look into them right away. That said, investigations still need to be thorough even if the cause of a crash seems obvious.

Just as an example, I recall a crash a while back where a driver was texting and driving, leading to a crash. Through further investigations, though, it turned out he was texting his boss while working. Basically, this boss would constantly call and text drivers, micromanaging their every move. If employees didn’t respond right away, they risked making their unreasonable boss angry and possibly losing their job. So, what just seemed like some distracted driver ended up being a company putting lives at risk for completely avoidable and unacceptable reasons.

I’m not saying that happened here, but that’s why the first and most obvious factor is not the beginning and end of an investigation. It’s important to preserve evidence, then continue digging to rule out or preserve other important factors. Getting a complete picture gives victims and families the best opportunity possible to seek out a just resolution. I see no reason right now why this accident would be an exception to that.
