Harris County, TX — May 23, 2025, Kevin Torres, Beatriz Gonzalez, and another person were injured in an alleged drunk driving accident at 8:37 p.m. on Sam Houston Pkwy.
Authorities say that the accident took place along South Sam Houston Parkway West, just east of Almeda Road south of Houston.
According to current statements, 23-year-old Kevin Torres and 30-year-old Beatriz Gonzalez were in a Chevy Suburban going eastbound along Sam Houston. It appears that a Honda Civic was going the wrong direction, driving westbound into traffic. This resulted in the two vehicles colliding.
As a result of the crash, Kevin Torres, Beatriz Gonzalez, and the Honda driver had serious injuries, reports say. Authorities allege that the Honda driver had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Charges are not yet confirmed.

If the allegations of drunk driving are true here, that frankly wouldn’t be surprising. It would actually be more surprising if someone going the wrong way into traffic wasn’t intoxicated. In my experience, drivers who drive into oncoming traffic tend to be not just drunk but extremely intoxicated. This raises the very serious possibility that the alleged drunk driver was unlawfully over-served by a local alcohol provider.
If that sounds like a foreign concept, it’s likely because negligent alcohol providers rarely get the attention they should. In Texas, bars and other establishments who recklessly over-serve obviously intoxicated patrons can be held responsible when that results in people getting hurt or killed. Despite the fact those negligent alcohol providers can be held accountable, authorities often focus all of their efforts on the drunk drivers. Those drivers may deserve to face consequences, but putting all of the focus on them allows those negligent alcohol providers to fly under the radar and continue business as usual until more people get hurt.
That’s why it’s important to investigate these accidents beyond just the crash itself. In my experience handling hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers, when they face actual consequences, they clean up their act. That means fewer dangerous drunk drivers getting on the wrong side of the road and fewer people getting hurt or killed as a result. Thanks to Texas law, steps can be taken both to right by the victims and families involved in the crash as well as the community as a whole.
