Accident Report

July 26, 2026, Kelley Ann Wreay and another person lost their lives due to a car accident at approximately 12:45 a.m. on State Highway 337.

According to authorities, 49-year-old Kelley Ann Wreay was traveling in a northwest bound Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck on S.H. 337 approaching the Sikes Street intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a southeast bound Dodge Ram 3500 occupied by a 22-year-old man was traveling on the wrong side of the the highway. A collision consequently occurred between the front-left of each Dodge.

Both Wreay and the man who had been behind the wheel of the Ram 3500 reportedly sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When head-on accidents happen in the middle of the night, it’s not uncommon for people to just point the finger at the person who had been behind the wheel of the wrong-way vehicle and move on. I do understand that instinct. Investigators should look into whether distraction due to something like cellphone or GPS use might have been at play. Also, that late at night, fatigue could easily have been the reason the truck ended up on the wrong side of the road. And, of course, there is the chance that alcohol could have been a factor. Any investigation worth its salt will be looking into these possibilities.

However, I do hope they look deeper than those surface issues in order to ensure that less likely causes were not to blame. I’ve seen plenty of cases over the last thirty plus years in which thorough investigation ended up uncovering evidence of causes that most people would not even think to consider off the bat. For example, what if the Ram 3500 was dealing with steering mechanism issues, and that was why it went into the wrong lane? Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or, if need be, a third party—get an in-depth vehicle inspection done on the Ram 3500 so that nothing important will inadvertently be allowed to slip through the cracks.

After all, when everything is said and done, the people affected by this accident—the loved ones left behind by the victims—deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of exactly how and why it took place. That kind of clarity—real answers backed by solid evidence—simply can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
