Accident Report
August 28, 2026, Juan Carrillo was injured due to a single-car accident shortly after 10:30 p.m. along Farm to Market 1655.
According to authorities, two men—a 32-year-old driver and 48-year-old Juan Carrillo—were traveling in a southwestbound Ford Mustang on F.M. 1655 in the vicinity some distance north of Alvord, Texas, when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Mustang failed to appropriately control its speed. It was consequently involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently struck a road sign.
Carrillo reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. The man who had been behind the wheel of the Mustang may have been hurt, as well, according to reports. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
It’s not uncommon for folks to assume that single-vehicle accidents that allegedly involve failure to slow and happen late at night like this one did must have been caused by driver error. While things like distraction, fatigue, impairment, et cetera could have been factors, I’m not willing to settle on the driver error conclusion without more information. Why? Because over the last three decades of my career, I’ve seen plenty of similar cases in which thorough investigation ended up uncovering evidence of less likely causes. Who’s to say that won’t have been the case here, as well?
To be clear, I’m not trying to imply that I’m somehow privy to details about this accident that aren’t yet publicly available. I simply want to point out that, hypothetically, the Mustang’s failure to slow and subsequent collision could have been a result of something gone wrong with the vehicle itself rather than driver error. For example, what it had been dealing with brake failure? Or perhaps its throttle was stuck in the open position somehow? I do understand that these things are not very likely, but that does not mean they should automatically be ruled out without even being considered.
An in-depth vehicle inspection done by qualified professionals would be able to shed light on any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that had a hand in the wreck which might otherwise have gone unnoticed. Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or, if need be, a third party—get one done. That way nothing important will inadvertently be allowed to slip through the cracks. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve a clear and detailed understanding of both how and why it occurred. That kind of clarity simply can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
