Accident Report
September 14, 2026, Jose Efrain Serrano was killed as the result of a semi-truck accident at around 2:50 p.m. on I-70.
According to officials, the accident happened along the shoulder of the interstate just outside Cloverdale. It appears that 46-year-old Jose Efrain Serrano was in a box truck going along I-70. For unclear reasons, the box truck stopped along the shoulder, and Jose Efrain Serrano exited the vehicle. After he exited the vehicle, a passing 18-wheeler somehow struck Jose Efrain Serrano, causing fatal injuries.
Reports say that the 18-wheeler driver stayed at the scene. Right now, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Given that this incident happened during daylight hours, I have to wonder why the 18-wheeler wasn’t able to see and avoid the victim. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for that, depending on where exactly the pedestrian was when the collision occurred and what led to the two parties crossing paths. That said, it’s also possible that a reasonably prudent driver passing the stopped box truck would have had ample room and visibility to avoid striking the victim.
One thing that could clear this up is if the 18-wheeler had any cameras onboard. A lot of commercial vehicles these days have at least dash cameras, and many also have cameras in the driver’s cab. However, trucking companies are only required to hand over that video if a court tells them to. So, it often helps to remind trucking companies of the duty they have to preserve evidence surrounding the accident. If they’re left to their own devices, some less reputable companies tend to “lose” video evidence unless steps are taken early to compel them to follow the rules.
One way or the other, that could be a crucial step in finding out what happened here. In the meantime, if anyone saw what happened here, share your observations in the comments.
