Accident Report
August 26, 2026, Jonathan Kendrick and one other person were injured due to a car accident at about 4:30 a.m. along F.M. 2311.
According to authorities, 35-year-old Jonathan Kendrick was traveling in a southeastbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Heritage Parkway in the vicinity southeast of the Olive Branch Road intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, a northwestbound Volkswagen Jetta occupied by a 21-year-old man entered the oncoming lane of traffic. A sideswipe collision consequently occurred between the left side of the Jetta and the left side of the Silverado.
Both Kendrick and the man from the Jetta reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Without more information, it might be tempting for some folks to just blame the driver of the vehicle that veered from its lane. While things like distraction, fatigue, impairment, et cetera could have been factors, I’m not willing to settle on the driver error conclusion before the investigation is complete. Why? Because over the last three decades of my career, I’ve seen plenty of similar cases in which thorough investigation ended up uncovering evidence of less likely causes. Maybe that will be the case here as well.
By the way, I’m not trying to imply that I’m somehow privy to details about this accident that aren’t yet publicly available. I simply want to point out that, hypothetically, the wreck could have been a result of something gone wrong with the Jetta itself rather than driver error. For example, what it had been dealing with steering mechanism issues? I’m well aware that this scenario is less than likely; but that does not mean it should automatically be ruled out without any consideration at all.
I would also be interested in knowing how well the safety features of the Jetta and the Silverado performed in the wreck. Did the airbags deploy correctly and in a timely manner? What about the seatbelts? Did they function the way they were designed to? Was either vehicle equipped with any collision avoidance assistance? If any of these features were faulty, then it is possible that the victims’ injured ended up being more serious than they should have been.
In-depth vehicle inspections done by qualified professionals would be able to shed light on any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that had a hand in the wreck which might otherwise have gone unnoticed. Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or, if need be, a third party—get those done. That way nothing important will inadvertently be allowed to slip through the cracks. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve a clear and detailed understanding of both how and why it occurred. That kind of clarity simply can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
