Mt. Pleasant, IA — March 21, 2023, John Thornton was killed and Michael Hines was injured in a single-vehicle truck accident around 11:10 a.m. on Old Hwy. 34 in Mt. Pleasant.
According to authorities, John Thornton was driving a garbage truck west on the highway when they believe he lost consciousness for unknown reasons. The truck then left the road, ultimately rolling over and stopping in the south ditch.
John Thornton suffered fatal injuries and Michael Hines was transported to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The cause and circumstances of this accident remain under investigation.
