Woodbridge Township, NJ — May 1, 2023, Joey Lopez sustained fatal injuries following a commercial truck accident at around 12:24 p.m. along Route 440.
Preliminary information about the truck wreck given by New Jersey State Police officials says that the crash happened along the northbound lanes of the highway near the 1.4 mile marker.
It appears that 19-year-old Joey Lopez was behind the wheel of a Honda Accord traveling along Route 440. For reasons still under investigation at this time, the Honda went onto the right shoulder. There, the Honda then crashed into the back of a Freightliner semi-truck that was stopped along the shoulder. This caused the vehicles to catch fire.
Joey Lopez sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. It appears the truck driver may have had minor injuries, according to police statements. Right now, they have not yet released any specific details regarding the events leading up to the collision. Investigations are ongoing.
