Angelina County, TX — November 29, 2025, Jacob Matthews was injured following a car accident at around 11:03 p.m. along US Highway 69.
Initial details about the accident say that it happened northwest of Lufkin near US 69 and Edwards Loop.
According to officials, 18-year-old Jacob Matthews was in a Chevy Silverado going southeast along the highway. In events unclear, the vehicle lost control, and it crashed along the highway. Jacob Matthews reportedly was seriously injured in the accident.
There did not appear to be any other injuries relating to the crash. Additional details are unavailable.

My hope here is that authorities didn’t let the age of the victim negatively impact their investigations. I’ve seen plenty of situations where officials see a young driver, and they immediately assume the victim did something wrong. Obviously, younger drivers are more prone to making mistakes. At the end of the day, though, it’s up to the evidence to say what led to the crash. If authorities let their preconceived image of teen drivers get in the way of an unbiased, thorough accident reconstruction, they might end up blaming someone for something they didn’t really have any control over. Hopefully nothing like that happened here.
