How Did This Accident Occur?
At this time of the morning, it is tempting to blame driver fatigue for this crash, but I’ve learned over the course of more than 30 years of being part of accident investigations that it’s best to wait until the investigation is complete before coming to any conclusions.
Maybe the driver did not off before the crash, but what if another vehicle forced the Mazda off the road? Or it had a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? These are possibilities that investigators must consider as they reconstruct this accident, using evidence from the scene, data from the vehicle and any available video footage.
If authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, an outside expert likely will be needed to conduct a forensic examination. In my experience, most law enforcement agencies aren’t equipped to handle such exams.
A thorough investigation should provide the injured driver and her family with answers to any lingering questions they may have about this crash.
