Accident Report
Midland, TX — September 17, 2026, four people were injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at Midkiff Road and Andrews Highway.
Authorities said a Mercedes-Benz sedan ran a red light and crashed into a Toyota Sequoia at the intersection.
Three people in the Toyota were hospitalized with unspecified injuries, according to authorities, while a woman who had been riding in the Mercedes suffered a broken arm in the crash.
The Mercedes driver, a 27-year-old Plainview man, was jailed on a charge of intoxication assault after police noticed signs he had been drinking, authorities said. He refused to submit to a blood test, so police obtained a search warrant for a blood sample.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Midland County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Police probably will investigate this crash like any other injury accident, but I hope they will dig a litter deeper if the blood test confirms the Mercedes driver was intoxicated. They should try to figure out where he had been drinking before the crash.
That could be important if he had been drinking at a bar or restaurant because under Texas law alcohol providers can share responsibility for injuries caused in drunk driver accidents if the driver was served while obviously intoxicated before getting behind the wheel.
I don’t know if that applies in this instance, but it is something that should be investigated so those affected by this crash know everyone who may have played a role in causing it.
Do you know anything that could help with this investigation? Let me know in the comments.
