Accident Report
August 8, 2026, Evi Mata and two others were injured following a car accident at around 12:40 a.m. along US 90.
Preliminary information about the accident says that the crash happened near US Highway 90 and County Road 193, just east of Raywood.
It appears that a 23-year-old man and 22-year-old Evi Mata were in a Ford Transit going westbound on the highway. A 17-year-old in a Honda Civic was going eastbound. Authorities claim that cellphone use led to the Honda going on the wrong side of the road, and it crashed into the Ford.
Due to the accident, Evi Mata and the Ford driver had serious injuries. The driver of the Honda also reportedly had serious injuries. Right now, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
If you were to tell me that a teenager on their cellphone while driving caused a crash, it certainly wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. Cellphones are a very common factor in accidents, and teen drivers happen to be more likely to do reckless things behind the wheel. With that said, I’d like to see what the evidence says before drawing any conclusions. That’s especially true when everyone involved in the crash is seriously hurt. It would surprise folks how many crash investigations I’ve seen where authorities actually just gave their best guess at the facts because all the victims were rushed to hospitals before they could give statements. Usually, they’ll follow up later to complete their reports, but things can slip through the cracks. So while it wouldn’t be unusual for cellphone use to be the cause of a crash like this, it’s not something I’d just believe without seeing the facts myself.
